XperTECH Maintenance

Routine Maintenance Services

Don’t wait until a tiny shudder or rattle becomes a huge problem! Sticking to your car’s maintenance schedule is the surest way to prevent costly repairs down the road.

You can find the schedule of suggested services in your car’s owner manual or on the manufacturer’s web site.

Four common services we provide are brake repairs, oil changes, transmission flushes, and coolant flushes. For more information, scroll down or click the links to the right.

Service 1: Brake Repairs

When you start to notice your brakes acting up, get them checked out right away. As one of the most important systems in your car, it’s crucial that your braking system is given special attention and repaired quickly.

We replace worn-out brake pads with parts of equal or better quality. We ensure that they fit with the system you have, whether that’s ceramic, non-asbestos organic (NAO), or semi-metallic. We can also machine the brake rotors (which helps prolong the life of your brake pads), clean and pack wheel bearings, and do a brake flush, if needed.

If you’ve noticed something’s not right with your brakes, don’t hesitate – contact us today.

Service 2: Oil Change

Changing your engine’s oil regularly is the single best thing you can do for your car. The engine needs new, clean oil every so often to stay in the best shape possible. This is especially critical once you’ve reached high mileage.

Oil wears out. As it circulates through the system, it cools the engine down and lubricates moving parts to reduce friction. That’s why you must change it regularly – every 3,000 to 4,000 miles, on average.

You now have more choices when it comes to motor oil than ever before. Your manufacturer may specify a particular type of oil to work best with your engine. Picking the right oil will improve your gas mileage, make starting in cold weather easier, and keep your engine working as it was designed to.

Synthetic oils are often best, as they last longer. Because you can drive longer in between oil changes with synthetic oil, it can end up being cheaper in the long run.

Go check the little sticker from your last oil change and see if you’re about due for another one. Call us today or come by and we’ll sort you out!

Service 3: Transmission Flush

Transmission fluid isn’t thought of as often as motor oil, but it’s no less important to the life of your car. Like oil, it cools and lubricates. Plus, in cars with automatic transmission, it assists with changing gears by providing hydraulic power.

With all the work it’s doing, transmission fluid gets dirty and needs to be replaced occasionally. Old fluid can become sticky and coat the internal valves. This can lead to rough or jerky shifting. In addition, bearings wear down from prolonged exposure to the dirt.

When we perform a transmission flush, we replace the old fluid with new and add a cleaner. The cleaner dissolves the sticky varnish deposits inside, extending the life of your transmission and improving shifting.

Contact us for an appointment to change your transmission fluid, especially if you can’t even remember the last time you changed it!

Service 4: Coolant Flush

Coolant has an important job, absorbing heat from the engine and dissipating it via the radiator. Coolant – often called antifreeze – contains the chemical ethylene glycol, which raises the boiling point and lowers the freezing point of the water it’s mixed with. It also contains anti corrosive chemicals to prevent breakdown of the many metals in your car, especially corrosion-prone aluminum.

Modern coolants can last as long as five years. Eventually, however, like the other fluids in your car, it needs replacing. The danger in not doing so is letting your engine overheat.

Schedule an appointment today and let us see if a coolant flush is something you could use.

Repair Services

In addition to the routine maintenance, from time to time you may need more extensive work done on your car. Here at XperTECH we can diagnose and fix the problem.

We’re equipped to repair engines, steering and suspension systems, transmissions, electrical systems, and more. Check out the links to the right or scroll down for more information on some of the services we provide.

Service 1: Diagnostics

When you know something is wrong but you don’t know what exactly, this is where to start. You can have someone plug in a little computer and give you the trouble code, but bear in mind that a single code can be caused by many different factors. A good mechanic checks them all – that’s what we do.

We guarantee our diagnoses. Let us inspect your car and determine what the problem is, for once and for all. Call us today to set up an appointment.

Service 2: Engine Performance

We’ve come a long way from changing the spark plugs every 12,000 miles. With today’s computer-controlled engines, you can go 60,000 miles or more before changing spark plugs. The computer even “tunes” the engine as it runs, keeping performance high and emissions low.

Because computers control so many aspects of your engine’s performance, it’s no longer practical or even possible to do many of these repairs yourself. Any one of the computer’s many sensors can fail, leading to problems like reduced gas mileage or low power.

Tell us your car’s symptoms and we can determine which sensors aren’t working correctly. Then we can fix them quickly and accurately. Come in today for a diagnosis or a good old-fashioned tune-up.

Service 3: Engine Repairs

Engines these days are better than ever, but they still wear out over time. They may simply need a water pump or head gasket replaced. Or they may need to be rebuilt entirely. Luckily, we can do it all.

If your engine has seen better days, make an appointment and we’ll do what we can to get your engine back in the best shape possible.

Service 4: Steering and Suspension

If you’re hearing suspicious clunks, creaks and squeaks when you drive, your steering and suspension system may be to blame. What’s worse, a faulty system can lead to poor handling and even loss of control. So don’t just put up with the noises as a minor annoyance, because they could be a sign of something more serious.

We are experts at detecting the cause of such problems. Call us and we can make an appointment to check out whatever’s been bothering you. We can fix steering and suspension systems so that you have a safe, smooth (and quiet!) ride.

Service 5: Electrical Repairs

There are literally dozens of miles of wire in modern cars. So when a headlight goes bad or a window won’t roll down, are you going to sort through all those miles of wire yourself to find out where it’s gone wrong? Not a chance! Bring your problem to us and we’ll do the hard work for you.

We’ll diagnose and fix your car’s electrical issues. Come in to talk to us about it today.

Service 6: Transmission Repairs

If you take a transmission problem to a transmission shop, the remedy will always be the same: a rebuilt transmission. The truth is that many problems with the transmission can be fixed by less drastic means. Often, something as simple as replacing an old seal or sensor can do the trick.

If it turns out you do need it rebuilt, we can take care of that too. But let us check it out first, and maybe save you the time, money, and hassle of a big repair you don’t need. Call us today!

We have taken our truck to Xpertech four times now, and each time the service was fantastic. The work was done right, prices were good, and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us; the owner even offered to let us use her personal car while our own vehicle was being repaired. We have been to a couple of other shops in the area, and they could could all learn some valuable lessons on customer service and quality from the folks at Xpertech. We will never take our truck anywhere else!

Excellent service. I took my car to Xpertech because I was having problems diagnosing a trouble code that was being displayed on the dashboard. Typically I do my own automotive work, but occasionally every weekend-warrior needs professional help. Kirk hooked my car up to one of their code scanners, free of charge, and discussed possible solutions to the problem with me for about 30 minutes. Miller Cadillac North wanted $115 for the same service, Mckelveen in Summerville wanted $95 and neither were interested in discussing the matter over the phone; they wanted me to come to the dealership and hand them a credit card so they could tell me my car needed $8000 of unnecessary work (it is a Cadillac, after all.) Point in case, everybody at XperTECH is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, their prices are reasonable, and their customer service is great; this goes a long way when speaking of mechanics.
